 GURU MAHIMA

hymns in praise of guru

Shreeghurupadha nakha mani jOthee| Sumira dhivya dhrushti hiya(m) hothee||
Dhalana moha thama So saprakaasoo|kiE(m) thilaka ghuna ghana bhasa karanee||

                                                    (Sri ThulsiDas’s shree ramacharita maanas)

A sathguru is the most superior one. Neither the worldly things created by Bagawan can be compared to a sathguru nor Bagawan Himself can be considered as equal to HIM. The superiority of a sathguru has been in existence in our Bharatha Bhoomi since past. Those who attain and surrender a sathguru are the most fortunate ones as the jeevaathmaa wandering for several births gets the spiritual knowledge only after attaining a sathguru. Even our great bhakthas of the past were unable to describe the greatness of a sathguru. Each and every action, each and every word of a sathguru has several meanings, which are beyond the imagination of an ordinary person. If such is the greatness of a sathguru then what can be said about HIS spiritual brightess!!!

In Ramacharithamanas, the brightness of a sathguru’s beautiful nail has been described. Really how great a sathguru is, no one could ever complete it in mere words. Each and every small part of a sathguru’s divine body has never ending greatness. The shining beautiful nail of a sathguru glows like a gem. Whenever we think of this glowy nail, a divine sight gets developed in our heart and mind. Yes its very true. This light destroys the ignorance hidden inside every jeevaathma and makes the soul to bloom. This powerful light is the only one, which completely erases out all the bad and unwanted things. Can this light of a sathguru’s nail have such a divine power and greatness? This may be a common question, but yes even a sathguru’s glowing nail has such an immense power that it can lighten the soul with true happiness.

Such greatness is hidden in the small shiny nail of a sathguru and the one on whom this spiritual light falls is the most, most fortunate one. This greatness of a sathguru itself reveals HIS superiority. Only a minute part of HIS greatness can be known but one can surely experience the power, greatness and grace of a sathguru.

Such great is our SATHGURU MAHAN BRAHMASHRI GOPALAVALLIDASAR and HIS superiority is indefinable.

ACHYUTHA PRIYAA

short stories to regain your faith

Radhekrishna!!! Everyone might be eagerly waiting to know the remedy, which the doctor suggested to the boy to save his father’s life! The boy was of the opinion that if his father would get the perfect medicine then his life could be saved. But the doctor said that the medicine, which is required for saving his father’s life, is very rare and it is not an easy task. To this the boy instantly said that searching the medicine for my father is my duty and yielding the result for this depends upon Bagawan.

Life is a combination of self-efforts (Purusha Prayathanam) and Bagawan’s wish (Bagawath sankalpam). Life becomes meaningless even if one is left out. Our duty is only to keep on trying and Bagawan would take care of the rest. One can never think of getting fruitful results without taking any efforts. Even Bagawan won’t shower HIS grace on persons having such attitude. Though Bagawan is eagerly waiting to shower HIS grace one has no right to blame HIM without putting self-efforts and vice-versa. Hence the boy said that trying for the medicine is his duty.

Life itself is full of trial. Every single day is a trial; every single minute is a trial. Our trial starts right from the time we struggle to come out of our mother’s womb!! It is the combined effort of both the mother and the child that pushes the child out of the womb. There starts the struggle, which continues till the last breath of our life!!! One cannot learn everything instantly. Only continuous practice makes one perfect. The same is the case with bhakthi and namasankeertanam.

The doctor was pleased to see the boy’s interest in putting efforts and hence he was ready to suggest the medicine. The doctor said, “there would be rainfall on the day of swati nakshathram; this rain water should get collected inside a skull (mandaiOdu); the poison of a snake should get mixed in this water by itself without any external interference”. If the boy succeeds in getting this water then his father’s life could be saved. In general the people with normal tendency would mislead the doctor to be a fool and trying to ditch them. But in reality he was a very good doctor. The boy replied spontaneously that this was not a big job and he would try for it.

This was next to impossible as the present climate was hot summer (agni nakshathram). The weather was such that there was no chance of rain at all. In spite of all these the task of getting the medicine seemed to be very easy for the boy, which surprised the doctor!!! The doctor said such types of remedies are mentioned in the history (shasthras) of Aayurvedha but he himself has also never tried it. But the boy had full confidence and faith that his Bagawan wont let him down. The boy felt that Bagawan HIMSELF had given him an opportunity to try and hence was ready to accept it whole-heartedly.

In general people are ready to put efforts only if they have a confidence of getting fruitful results. Until and unless they don’t get an assurance of getting fruitful result no one is ready to put their efforts. This is the reason for everyone’s failure in life!!! It is not necessary that every time one should be aware of the outcome. When the child remains inside the mother’s womb for 10 months everyone is extremely eager to see its physical appearance but this eagerness comes to an end only when the child comes out. The picture portrayed by the scans is completely different than the original physical appearance.

Our duty is to keep trying, some day or the other we will get the fruitful result because every effort surely yields a fruitful result! Every sincere effort has a fruitful result; this is the rule of nature created by Bagawan. The boy had unconditional faith in Bagawan and was confident that Bagawan has the capability to bring rains even in a hot summer season. If Bagawan wishes HE can do anything.

The doctor asked the boy when he was going to set out in search of the medicine. The boy was ready to leave immediately and hence he asked the doctor about the details of swati nakshathram. The doctor said that swati nakshathram would fall within two days and blessed that boy to get success in his efforts.

Did the boy succeed in his efforts? Did his faith on Bagawan yield him the expected result? What happened on the day of swati nakshathram? Eager to know? Wait till our next issue!!! Radhe Krishna!!!

HRUDHAYAANJALI

the power of divine grace

Radhekrishna!!!
Sarvam Guruvaarpanam!!
Pranams to my Guru’s lotus feet.

Life with the guiding hand of Gurujiamma is a blessed feeling indeed. With her krupaa and karunaa, I can feel her presence whenever I am in need of it. Small things like a cake turned out well or a project well completed become big events due to the experiences we get while we do these things. She helps with everything, some which we tend to think as mundane, but they are made exhilarating just by her divine presence.

This year was my very first experience of a public exam. Thanks to Guruji, it was all smooth sailing for me. I did accounting as one of my options, and I really take this subject to heart as I plan to continue with it in the future. As I was entering the hall to do this paper, my mind was crammed with thoughts and notes. I remembered Mahaan Bramhasree Gopalavallidasar’s advice and immediately did a quick spot of dhyaanam with namajapam. I placed the paper at Guruji’s feet in my mind and started with a refreshed mind.

Doing this I quickly scanned my paper and was dismayed to see a very hard question which I had been dreading. I had not covered this topic as well as I should have. The question weighed 20 marks and I was very scared. I thought once again of Guruji’s lotus feet and started with that hard number. I finished it, putting numbers and names in what I thought were the correct places. I finished the rest of the paper, checked it twice over and was about to hand over the paper and go out. But it felt like something was pulling me back to the paper. I checked the 20 mark question again and was surprised to find most of the accounting entries made the other way round (incorrect)!!! I quickly corrected my mistakes and left the exam hall soon after.

Immediately after coming out of the exam hall, I checked the format required for the 20 mark question in my notebook and to my great surprise and joy, I had done it all correctly!!!!

As I walked away, I tried to recall the other questions in that paper; but amazingly, I could not recollect any of them. My classmates tried asking me how I had done some questions, but I was unable to answer them. Then, I realized that Guruji had taken me through the paper!!
I was a bit shocked that my scanty namajapam had done such a huge thing for me. It had helped me realize that whatever I did I should put it at Guruji’s feet and do it without worries and fears. I can say with confidence that I am not worried about my exam results since it was not me who did those papers and so, Guruji will take care of my results.

SARVAM GURUVAARPANAM!!

SHRADHAARPANAM

This issue we are dedicating to the great gopi Kodhai ( Aandal ).

One of the greatest devotees of Lord Krishna.

She was the disciple of Sri Periyaazhwaar.

Though she was His foster daughter, she is still referred to as "Periyaazhwaar Petruedutha Penpillai VaazhiyE".

At the tender age of 5,  she quoted verses in praise of Lord Krishna which was only due to the grace of Her Sathguru, Sri Periyaazhwaar.

She always referred to herself as the humble devotee of Periyaazhwaar.

A great disciple who enabled her guru to be one of the few chosen father-in-laws of Lord by marrying Lord RANGANAATHA Himself.

The great disciple and devotee whose bhakthi is considered to be the epitome of 'Prema' next only to Radhika Rani.

Aandal Thiruvadigaley Saranam.
